Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
-
Why do I need Microsoft Defender for Cloud?
Microsoft Defender for Cloud gives you detailed insights into the activities taking place across your cloud environments. It’s incredibly easy for admins to misconfigure things in the cloud, or to make an insecure mistake, such as opening an internet-facing port up to a virtual machine. This could allow attackers to access this machine over the internet in seconds.
If someone does this in your organisation, you’d want to know about it. Microsoft Defender for Cloud gives you the capabilities to detect this sort of vulnerability and remedy it immediately, either with automation or human intervention.
-
Can I use Microsoft Defender for Cloud if my servers are on-prem?
Yes, we can use Azure Arc to bring on-premises servers into Azure and apply the powerful capabilities of Microsoft Defender for Cloud to them.
-
What is Cloud Security Posture management (CSPM)?
Cloud Security Posture Management (CSPM) in Microsoft Defender for Cloud makes managing cloud environments much easier and more secure. This is especially valuable for organisations that don’t have much in-house security expertise.
CSPM provides you with an actionable list of alerts and recommendations, detailing exactly what you need to do to remedy vulnerabilities and misconfigurations and improve your security. It also gives you a range of universal benchmarks and policies which any organisation can align to, ensuring a good level of security is in place.
-
How does Microsoft Defender for Cloud pricing and licensing work?
Microsoft Defender for Cloud is all billed through Azure consumption.
For example, if you turned on Defender for Servers, which is one of the workload protections in Defender for Cloud, it will bill you per server per month.
Other defender plans might be billed on a different basis, such as transactions. For example, Defender for Storage will bill you for every 10,000 transactions.
